Kudos to the students, teachers, staff and parents of Burgettstown Elementary Center. They will soon be reaping a year’s worth of character education during their annual Heartwood Carnival June 3 at First Niagara Pavilion.
More than 300 parents, teachers and student volunteers will be working to make it a memorable — and rewarding — day for those children who have been all year absorbing the lessons on character attributes, including respect, courage, justice, hope, love, loyalty and honesty.
In addition to those volunteers, several area businesses, including the pavilion, Dick’s Sporting Goods, R& B Printing and Scrapbooking by Inches, and area service organizations, such as the Burgettstown Kid Center, Hanover Township Police Department and Ambulance and Chair Service, also are donating time, services and items for the kids’ day out.
Through their donations and volunteer efforts, these volunteers, businesses and organizations are putting to work the very qualities teachers are trying to instill in their students. There could be no better examples to the children of the Burgettstown Elementary Center as to how these principals of character work than the one set by those working together to create a fun-filled day for them.
Not only has the Heartwood Committee been working with the community to teach these children the important of the character, they have been setting an example.
